Why do people get upset at single women having babies through artificial insemination?

single women
Dorian asked:

I’m a single woman planning a pregnancy now, using artificial insemination and donor sperm. I know of three different women in my office who have done this same thing in the last year or so. Several people, both men and women, in the office seem really upset about this and have stated they feel it’s wrong.

I’m curious about people’s opinions on this. Why would people care if someone does this?

People want babies to have both mothers and fathers.
Thats why.

Because you are cheating the baby out of the opportunity to have both a mother and a father in their lives.

its your choice to make, not theirs

Because it’s new and not traditional. It’s not what people have always done, but a lot of new things work out quite nicely. As long as you keep your child healthy and happy, good for you! That would be better than a couple that is married but fights constantly (not being a good role model to their children).

Most people have not been born through artificial insemination, so people reject the idea. Once it becomes more common, that opinion might be less relevant.

I think that there are so many cute children out there that you can be adopted. I think its very brave for people to take on adoption then trying to spend thousands to go through artificial insemination. I can have kids , however I am thinking about adopting instead as these kids are in need. But hey its your world. Just do you.

It doesn’t bother me. I only get annoyed because in Australia, the government pays for up to a certain number of tries, and I don’t think my tax dollars should be used in this way if a woman is fertile and choosing artificial insemination (which is generally the case with single women).

Genesis 1:27-28 says, “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, ‘Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it…” And Genesis 2:24 says, “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”

God intended for man and woman to marry and have children. Granted, it may not be anyone else’s business what you decide to do, but still consider what I’ve shared with you, pray about it, and then make your decision.

I have absolutely no issue with this. I think it’s fine. Obviously you need a man (or sperm) and women to make a baby. But anyone can raise a baby. I think it’s wonderful.

Congrats, I wish you all the best.

They should not be stating anything. Who are they to say what is right or wrong for you? I would tell them to mind their own business. I don’t know why people think that they can comment on the choices someone else has made. I don’t care if someone does this. To each his own.
